Donate Crypto for Zambia: Smallholder Farmer Support Fund, Anti-Poaching Coalition, Livestock Health Support Fund and Rural Newsroom Support Fund

If you want to donate crypto to Zambia, much of the need traces back to the land and the weather. On 29 February 2024, Zambia’s President declared a national disaster after an El Niño-induced drought hit 84 of the country’s 116 districts, according to ACAPS. A UN drought response appeal from May 2024 reported that 982,765 hectares of the estimated 2,272,931 hectares of maize planted had been destroyed. ACAPS put the number of people in need in 2024 at 9.8 million, of whom 6.6 million were food-insecure.

Rural households carry most of this risk. ACAPS notes that about 60% of Zambians live below the national poverty line, rising to 78.8% in rural areas. Recovery since the drought has been real but uneven: maize production has rebounded to an estimated five million tonnes, yet more than 1.2 million people are projected to face Crisis-level food insecurity or worse during the October 2026 to March 2027 lean season, and Fall Armyworm affected about 596,000 farming households in 2024–2025.

The causes below respond to different parts of rural life in Zambia: helping smallholders recover their harvests, keeping livestock healthy, protecting elephants and other wildlife in the Luangwa Valley, and supporting community radio and journalists who report on rural communities.

Causes you can support in Zambia

Smallholder Farmer Support Fund

This fund trains subsistence farming households in Zambia that are recovering from the 2024 drought in conservation farming, from planting basins and crop rotation to early land preparation that makes the most of erratic rains. Lead farmers host demonstration plots and teach their neighbours, and the fund pays for basin hoes, rippers and other minimum-tillage tools.

The 2024 drought destroyed 982,765 hectares of the maize planted that season (UN Zambia), and ACAPS projects that more than 1.2 million people will face Crisis-level food insecurity or worse in the 2026–2027 lean season.

Anti-Poaching Coalition

This cause pays ranger salaries and provides field equipment for anti-poaching patrols that protect elephants and other wildlife in Zambia’s Luangwa Valley, where snaring and ivory poaching remain persistent threats. Steady pay and proper equipment allow rangers to keep up regular patrols across large areas of wild land.

Snaring and ivory poaching remain persistent threats in the Luangwa Valley. In South Luangwa, where this partner works, rangers patrol alongside government wildlife officers to protect elephants and other wildlife from threats such as wire snares.

Livestock Health Support Fund

This fund improves access to veterinary care for smallholder farmers in Zambia whose livelihoods depend directly on the health of their animals. Healthy livestock means more reliable income, food and savings for rural households.

With 78.8% of rural Zambians living below the national poverty line (ACAPS), the loss of an animal to disease can set a household back badly, especially after the 2024 drought.

Rural Newsroom Support Fund

This cause supports community radio and rural journalists in areas of Zambia that receive little attention from national media, through training, monitoring of media-freedom violations and advocacy for fairer media laws. It helps local journalists keep reporting on the issues that matter to their communities.

Poverty in Zambia is concentrated in rural areas, where 78.8% of people live below the national poverty line (ACAPS), yet these are the areas national media cover least. Local reporting keeps those communities informed and their concerns visible.
