Funds counseling, schooling support and vocational training that give young people at risk of violence and gang recruitment in Honduras a safer path.
Why this matters in Honduras
Gangs such as MS-13 and Barrio 18 control parts of Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula block by block, and they recruit young. Boys of twelve or thirteen are asked to act as lookouts, carry messages or collect extortion payments from bus drivers and corner shops, and refusing can put a whole family at risk. Girls face pressure to become gang members' partners. Many families respond by keeping children indoors, moving neighborhoods, or sending them north toward the US border alone.
Public schools end at midday or early afternoon in many districts, and safe places for teenagers to spend the rest of the day are scarce. From late 2022 the government leaned on a state of emergency and policing to confront the gangs, but arrests do little for a fourteen-year-old who needs a reason, and a place, to stay in school. Structured time with adults who check on them, plus training that points to legal work, gives young people a credible alternative to the offer on the corner.

Organization
Casa Alianza Honduras · Honduras
US IRS EIN (parent: Covenant House) · No. 13-2725416
Founded 1987 · Headquarters: Tegucigalpa
Honduran NGO supporting vulnerable children and young people with protection, education and prevention programmes.
How they work: Casa Alianza works from bases in Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula with young people aged roughly 12 to 18, and its services are free. Staff first meet basic needs, then sit down with each young person to set goals and a written plan, followed through case management. That plan can draw on counseling, schooling support, vocational training, arts and sports, family reintegration and aftercare. The organization also monitors violations of children's rights and publishes reports that are circulated nationally and internationally.
Track record: Casa Alianza Honduras supports children and young people at risk of violence, drugs and gang involvement with schooling support, therapeutic workshops, counselling and health monitoring.

Giving in Honduras
Gangs in parts of Honduras recruit young people early, and counseling, schooling support and vocational training can offer them a different path. This fund supports that work through Casa Alianza Honduras, which has worked with at-risk and street-connected youth for many years. It is presently the single Honduran cause on the site, and further causes may be listed as other partners are vetted.
This is currently the only cause we list in Honduras. $115,171 has been distributed to causes in Honduras since 2021.
