Why this matters in Finland
A young person who has dropped out of upper secondary or vocational school, or never started, can drift for years without being anyone's clear responsibility. Some live with anxiety, depression or learning difficulties that were never properly addressed; others have migrant backgrounds, unstable housing or no work history at all. The longer someone stays outside work and study, the harder the way back, and early exclusion is linked to lower lifetime earnings and poorer health.
Public employment services are built around job search and benefit conditions. Since the start of 2025, Finnish municipalities have taken over responsibility for those services, with caseloads growing as unemployment has risen. A young person who is not ready for a job interview, or who first needs to rebuild a daily routine, can fall between social, health and employment services, each assuming another will act. Low-threshold coaching fills that space by starting from where the person actually is rather than where the system expects them to be.

Finnish Business Information System (Y-tunnus; parent: Helsingin Diakonissalaitoksen säätiö sr) · No. 0116480-8
Founded 2008 · Headquarters: Helsinki
Youth service helping young people outside work and education into training and employment.
How they work: Because Vamos is voluntary, taking part is a young person's own choice rather than a benefits requirement, which matters for those wary of official services. Each participant is matched with a personal youth worker who first gets to know their situation and needs. Coaching then covers everyday life and future planning as well as concrete steps toward study or work, with content and pace adapted to the individual rather than fixed in advance. Vamos is part of the Helsinki Deaconess Foundation's wider social and health services.
Track record: Vamos offers free, voluntary individual and group coaching to 16-29-year-olds not in education or employment at eleven locations from Helsinki to Rovaniemi.

Giving in Finland
Rising youth joblessness, at a time when Finland has one of the highest unemployment rates in the OECD, connects two of the Finnish causes. Vamos, run by the Helsinki Deaconess Foundation, provides job-readiness training for young jobseekers, and MIELI Mental Health Finland provides early mental health support for young people, from anonymous chat to coping-skills lessons in schools. The third looks to the land, protecting peatlands and boreal forests that store carbon and support biodiversity, through the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation.
3 causes are listed in Finland, each with its own verified organization. $204,461 has been distributed to causes in Finland since 2021.
