Why this matters in Tunisia
The 2011 revolution began in Sidi Bouzid after a young street vendor set himself alight, and the frustrations behind it, especially youth joblessness, are still unresolved. Unemployment is worst among university graduates, young women and people in interior governorates such as Kasserine, Gafsa and Sidi Bouzid, where private employers are scarce and the public sector, once the default career, is no longer hiring at scale.
Part of the problem is mismatch. Many graduates hold degrees in fields with few openings, while companies in call centers, manufacturing, tourism and technology say candidates lack practical and workplace skills. Young people without contacts struggle to get a first interview, and long periods of inactivity make each later application harder. Short, employer-designed courses that lead straight to a job offer shorten that wait and give young people a first line on their CV.
What your gift pays for

Organization
EFE-Tunisie (Education For Employment Tunisia) · Tunisia
Founded 2012 · Headquarters: Tunis
Provides job-linked short training courses and placement for unemployed Tunisian youth.
How they work: EFE-Tunisie is part of the Education For Employment network, which works across the Middle East and North Africa on a demand-led model. Before a course starts, staff secure commitments from employers about the roles they need to fill, then build short training around those roles, combining job-specific skills with workplace behavior and communication. Graduates are placed directly with partner companies, and staff continue to follow them after they start work.
Track record: Since its 2012 launch, EFE-Tunisie has connected 22,652 young Tunisians to the world of work, 69% of its graduates being young women, with 96 employers hiring alumni.

Giving in Tunisia
Jobs for young people and land under pressure from desertification are the two Tunisian themes. EFE-Tunisie runs short vocational courses aimed at youth unemployment, which affects nearly 37 percent of people aged 15 to 24, more than twice the national rate. The agriculture ministry's land conservation directorate funds terracing and erosion control in watersheds facing desertification. One cause invests in people entering the workforce, the other in the soil and water that rural livelihoods depend on.
2 causes are listed in Tunisia, each with its own verified organization. $461,231 has been distributed to causes in Tunisia since 2021.
