How they work: BC Rent Bank operates as a provincial hub rather than a single front desk. With provincial government funding, it supports a network of local rent banks run by community organizations, shares common practices among them and helps start new rent banks where none exist. Local staff meet each renter, confirm the shortfall and arrange a loan or grant, often paid directly to the landlord, while connecting the household with budgeting help and other services.
Track record: Since 2019 has helped over 15,000 people stay housed with over $11 million in emergency financial assistance; in 2024/25 it assisted 4,327 individuals.
