Supports a nationwide association of Polish UN peacekeeping veterans whose local chapters keep former peacekeepers connected and educate the public about the missions and their risks.
Why this matters in Poland
Polish soldiers have served under the UN flag since the 1970s, in the Sinai, on the Golan Heights and in Lebanon, and later in the Balkans and on NATO-led operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Many came home with injuries that are hard to see: post-traumatic stress, depression, alcohol problems and difficulty settling back into family life and civilian work. Older peacekeepers often served before such conditions were widely recognized and never received help.
A 2011 law created a formal status for veterans of operations abroad, with benefits attached, and the defense ministry later opened a dedicated veterans center in Warsaw. Much of that support, though, is aimed at those wounded in action and runs through military structures that some veterans, especially long-retired ones, are reluctant to approach. Stigma around mental health in military culture remains strong, and veterans in small towns may have no specialist nearby. Contact with people who served in the same places is often what persuades someone to seek help.

Giving in Poland
Displacement across Poland's eastern borders shapes three of its four causes. Polish-language bridging classes help refugee children settle into school, job-placement support helps displaced Ukrainian families enter the labor market, and Grupa Granica provides humanitarian aid to people crossing the dangerous Belarus border. The fourth supports a nationwide association of Polish UN peacekeeping veterans that keeps former peacekeepers connected. Partners are Polish civil society organizations, including the Ocalenie Foundation, which runs both integration programs.
4 causes are listed in Poland, each with its own verified organization. $289,426 has been distributed to causes in Poland since 2021.
