Funds teaching Fellows placed in under-resourced public schools in rural districts, including areas hit by the 2015 earthquake, where qualified teachers are scarce.
Why this matters in Nepal
The 2015 Gorkha earthquake and its aftershocks damaged or destroyed thousands of school buildings, with the heaviest losses in hill districts such as Gorkha, Sindhupalchok, Dhading and Nuwakot. Larger schools on main roads were generally rebuilt first with government and donor money. Small schools in scattered hill settlements, sometimes serving a few dozen children, were often lower on the list, and some waited years in temporary shelters of tin and bamboo that are cold in winter and deafening in monsoon rain.
Most have since been rebuilt, but the building was only half the problem. Teacher posts in community schools are allocated by the state, and in remote hill schools a sanctioned post can sit vacant or a teacher can transfer to a town, leaving the school to find a replacement itself. Parents who farm for a living rarely have cash to spare. A trained teacher who stays for two full years gives children a continuity that a new classroom alone cannot.

Organization
Teach For Nepal · Nepal
Founded 2012 · Headquarters: Kathmandu
Places teachers in under-resourced public schools and helped rebuild schools after the 2015 earthquake.
How they work: Teach For Nepal recruits university graduates for a two-year, full-time fellowship teaching in government community schools, with training before and during placement, and is part of the global Teach For All network. Fellows live in or near the communities they serve and work inside existing public schools rather than setting up new ones. Alongside classroom teaching they work with head teachers, school management committees and parents, and many alumni stay on in education roles after the fellowship ends.
Track record: After the 2015 earthquake, Teach For Nepal Fellows coordinated relief, assessed damaged schools with volunteer engineers and supported temporary learning centres.

Giving in Nepal
Mountain geography and migration run through the four Nepali causes. One places teaching Fellows in rural public schools, including in earthquake-affected districts, where qualified teachers are scarce; another protects Himalayan watersheds strained by glacial melt and erosion. Two focus on women: legal briefings before women leave for domestic work abroad, and legal aid for widows whose inheritance rights are contested under customary land practices. Partners are mostly Nepali organizations, including Teach For Nepal, Pourakhi Nepal and Women for Human Rights, alongside WWF Nepal.
4 causes are listed in Nepal, each with its own verified organization. $386,692 has been distributed to causes in Nepal since 2021.
