Funds employment coaching and mental health support for veterans transitioning to civilian life.
Why this matters in the United Kingdom
Most people leaving the armed forces find work and settle quickly, but a significant minority do not. Those most at risk include early service leavers who left within a few years, people discharged on medical grounds, and those who joined young and have never applied for a civilian job. Skills gained in service, from logistics to leading a team, are often hard to translate into a CV, and some employers misread military experience.
Mental health problems can compound the difficulty. NHS England's Op COURAGE service now offers specialist veteran mental health care, and the Armed Forces Covenant commits public bodies to fair treatment, yet waits for therapy are long and some veterans fall between NHS thresholds. Work and mental health are closely linked: losing a job can trigger a crisis, and untreated symptoms make it harder to keep one. Support that tackles both together tends to last longer than help with either alone.

Organization
Walking With The Wounded · United Kingdom
Charity Commission for England and Wales · No. 1153497
Founded 2010 · Headquarters: Manchester
UK veterans charity (listed by GOV.UK veteran support) providing employment support and mental health care coordination for veterans moving into civilian life.
How they work: Walking With The Wounded works through individual case management: each veteran has a named coordinator or employment adviser who stays with them over months. Its Head Start program funds private therapy for veterans and families with common mental health conditions, covering the wait for NHS treatment, and the charity works closely with NHS veterans' mental health services. It became widely known for polar expeditions with wounded service members.
Track record: Among 1,076 people on its employment programme in 2014-2021, the share in work rose from 39% at entry to 51% a year later, a UK government Employment Data Lab analysis found.

Giving in the United Kingdom
Long waits and stretched budgets connect most of the British causes here. Several respond to NHS waiting lists in England, including the more than 550,000 children and young people waiting for mental health support, while others address rough sleeping, food bank demand still far above pre-pandemic levels, unlawful evictions and winter warmth for low-income pensioners. Youth employment, foster care, regional theatres and rare genetic disease research round out the range, with established charities such as The Trussell Trust, St Mungo's, Shelter and Age UK as partners.
19 causes are listed in the United Kingdom, each with its own verified organization. $1,137,510 has been distributed to causes in the United Kingdom since 2021.
