Provides transit assistance — food, basic medical care, and information — along the main overland migration route through Colombia.
Why this matters in Colombia
Colombia hosts more Venezuelan migrants than any other country, and many more have crossed it on foot toward Ecuador, Peru and Chile, or north toward Panama and the United States. The main overland route runs from the border crossings at Cúcuta through Pamplona and over the high Andean páramo to Bucaramanga, a climb into freezing temperatures that walkers, known as caminantes, often make in sandals and light clothing.
Pregnant women, young children and older adults walk for days with little food, sleep outdoors, and risk extortion and exploitation by armed groups along the way. People without regular status can get emergency care but have limited access to ongoing treatment, so blisters, dehydration, respiratory infections and chronic illnesses often go untreated. Migration flows have shifted with policy changes in the United States and across the region, including movement back toward Venezuela, so services have to be flexible and placed where people actually travel.

As a neutral humanitarian body, it assists people regardless of migration status.

Giving in Colombia
Decades of internal conflict over land have left Colombia with one of the world's largest internal displacement crises, and that history connects its causes. Community learning circles reach children in displaced communities, and legal support helps families pursue land restitution claims. The Colombian Red Cross assists Venezuelan migrants along the main overland route through the country, while harm reduction and peer outreach serve people who use drugs in cities shaped by the drug trade. Partners range from the national Red Cross to local foundations.
