Why this matters in Poland
Most adults who left Ukraine in 2022 were women, because men of military age were largely barred from leaving, and many arrived with children and older relatives. They now often carry sole responsibility for income and childcare in an unfamiliar city. Many hold degrees or years of professional experience but work below their skills, in cleaning, warehouses or hospitality, because qualifications are not recognized and their Polish is not yet strong enough for skilled roles.
Polish and Ukrainian are related languages, yet reaching the level needed for nursing, teaching or office work takes structured study that free public provision covers poorly. State employment offices are geared to local jobseekers and rarely offer individual career guidance in Ukrainian or Russian. Some family benefits for Ukrainians have also been tied to parents' employment and children's school attendance, so steady, legal work has become a condition for families who want to stay.

Organization
Fundacja Ocalenie (Ocalenie Foundation) · Poland
National Court Register (KRS), Poland; NIP 1181570203 · No. KRS 0000030279
Founded 2000 · Headquarters: Warsaw
Warsaw NGO offering integration support, language learning and job help to refugees including Ukrainians.
How they work: Ocalenie's counselors work case by case: a client may see a career adviser, a lawyer and a psychologist at the same center, so problems such as a missing document or an unpaid wage get handled alongside the job search. Language classes are largely taught by trained volunteers, which keeps groups small and frequent. The foundation also speaks publicly on migration policy and was among the organizations that formed the Grupa Granica network at the Belarus border in 2021.
Track record: Ocalenie's Help Center for Foreigners, operating since 2004, offers free legal, psychological and career counselling, alongside volunteer-led Polish language classes run since 2009.

Giving in Poland
Displacement across Poland's eastern borders shapes three of its four causes. Polish-language bridging classes help refugee children settle into school, job-placement support helps displaced Ukrainian families enter the labor market, and Grupa Granica provides humanitarian aid to people crossing the dangerous Belarus border. The fourth supports a nationwide association of Polish UN peacekeeping veterans that keeps former peacekeepers connected. Partners are Polish civil society organizations, including the Ocalenie Foundation, which runs both integration programs.
4 causes are listed in Poland, each with its own verified organization. $289,426 has been distributed to causes in Poland since 2021.
