Funds emergency shelter and non-food item distribution for households newly displaced by fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces.
Why this matters in Sudan
Fighting that began in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces has produced what the UN describes as the world's largest displacement crisis. IOM counted about 8.6 million people internally displaced as of June 2026, many of them uprooted more than once as front lines moved through Khartoum, Darfur and Kordofan. Families often flee with almost nothing and arrive in towns or open sites where they sleep outdoors or crowd into schools and public buildings.
Host communities share what they can, but markets, water points and clinics were already stretched before the war. Insecurity and bureaucratic obstacles repeatedly block humanitarian access, and appeals for the country have been badly underfunded. Newly arrived households need the basics quickly: something to sleep under and on, a way to cook, and containers to carry and store water. Without them, exposure to rain, heat and disease rises sharply, especially for young children and older people.
What your gift pays for
- Emergency shelter kits with plastic sheeting, poles and rope for families arriving at displacement sites
- Blankets, sleeping mats and mosquito nets for households that fled with nothing
- Cooking sets, jerrycans and hygiene items so families can prepare food and store water
- Cash assistance where markets still function, letting households buy what they need most
Organization
Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) Sudan · Sudan
Brønnøysund Register Centre, Norway (parent: Stiftelsen Flyktninghjelpen / NRC) · No. 977538319
Founded 2004 · Headquarters: Kosti
Provides emergency shelter and non-food items to people displaced by the SAF-RSF war.
How they work: NRC is an independent humanitarian organization that works only with people affected by displacement. Its Sudan teams combine shelter and household items with water and sanitation, education, food security support and legal counselling on identity documents and property, so assistance can follow families from first arrival into longer displacement. Where markets work, it often gives cash instead of goods, and it campaigns publicly for safe humanitarian access.
Track record: In 2025 NRC assisted 1,386,877 people in Sudan, including 96,949 with shelter and settlements support.

Giving in Sudan
The causes listed for Sudan respond to a civil war that has collapsed much of the formal health system and cut supply routes into besieged areas where famine has been confirmed. Medecins Sans Frontieres keeps mobile surgical units running, the World Food Programme delivers emergency food into cut-off areas, and the Norwegian Refugee Council provides shelter and essential items for newly displaced households. UNICEF distributes insecticide-treated bed nets against malaria, which remains a heavy burden alongside the conflict.
4 causes are listed in Sudan, each with its own verified organization. $305,008 has been distributed to causes in Sudan since 2021.
