Funds boats and school transport so children in remote island and coastal communities can reach the nearest functioning secondary school.
Why this matters in the Philippines
Many villages on small islands, mangrove coasts and upland barangays have an elementary school but no high school, so continuing past grade six means a daily trip across open water or down a mountain road. The fare for a pump boat or jeepney, paid twice a day, five days a week, is a real expense for families living on fishing or farm income, and it is often the cost that decides whether a teenager keeps studying or starts working.
Secondary schooling grew longer when the K to 12 reform added two years of senior high school, which also added two more years of fares. In remote areas the nearest functioning school can still be far, typhoons regularly damage classrooms and boats, and in many places there is no scheduled transport at all. Some children walk for hours. In one coastal community, children swam to school, the scene that first drew national attention to the problem.

Organization
Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation · Philippines
Founded 2010 · Headquarters: Makati
Provides boats and transport so children in island and coastal communities can reach school.
How they work: Yellow Boat of Hope began in Layag-Layag, a coastal community in Zamboanga City where children swam to school, and grew by donating boats, each named after its sponsor, to other communities with the same problem. The boats also support local fishing livelihoods, so a single donation serves both school transport and family income. The foundation has since expanded into building classrooms, medical missions and livelihood projects, so transport support sits inside a wider package for each community.
Track record: Since 2010 the foundation has provided 5,241 boats so children in remote Philippine communities can reach school, working with 127 communities and 143 public schools.

Giving in the Philippines
Spread across thousands of islands and struck by typhoons several times a year in some provinces, the Philippines poses problems of reach as much as of resources. The causes listed here pre-position relief supplies before typhoon season, build elevated water storage that survives repeated storms, and provide boats so children in remote island and coastal communities can get to secondary school. A fourth supports reporting on corruption through the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, in a media environment where journalists have faced harassment.
4 causes are listed in the Philippines, each with its own verified organization. $443,453 has been distributed to causes in the Philippines since 2021.
