Funds repairs, staff and basic supplies for primary health clinics in areas recovering from conflict.
Why this matters in the Central African Republic
Armed groups have contested much of the country for more than a decade, and repeated waves of fighting have emptied villages, looted clinics and driven health workers away. Where facilities still stand, many lack roofs, clean water, power or a reliable supply of drugs, and staff can go unpaid for months. Malaria is the leading cause of illness and death among young children, and ordinary conditions like diarrhea, respiratory infection and malnutrition turn deadly when the nearest working clinic is a long walk on unsafe roads.
The national health system depends heavily on outside support, and humanitarian funding for the Central African Republic has shrunk as international attention moved to other crises. When fighting moves on, communities return to ruined facilities and need basic care restored before anything else can rebuild. Repairing a primary health center, staffing it with trained workers and keeping essentials in stock lets people treat malaria and childhood illness close to home and reach a hospital when they cannot.

Founded 1997 · Headquarters: Bangui
Supports and runs primary and hospital care in conflict-affected areas of CAR.
How they work: In most projects MSF works alongside the Ministry of Health, supporting existing hospitals and health centers with staff, drugs and logistics rather than building a parallel system. It trains community health workers to test and treat malaria in villages, runs mobile clinics where facilities are out of reach, and provides medical and psychological care for survivors of sexual violence. As an independent medical organization, it is funded mainly by private donations so it can stay neutral in a conflict setting.
Track record: Present in CAR since 1997, MSF carried out 577,600 outpatient consultations and 78,300 hospital admissions in 2025 and completed a 74-bed paediatric ward at Carnot hospital.

Giving in the Central African Republic
Recovery from conflict is the common ground for the Central African Republic. Medecins Sans Frontieres repairs, staffs and supplies primary health clinics in areas emerging from fighting, and Plan International traces the families of children who were separated from them or released from armed groups, then supports their return home. One cause rebuilds basic health services; the other rebuilds family ties, with both partners working in some of the country's most affected areas.
2 causes are listed in the Central African Republic, each with its own verified organization. $227,371 has been distributed to causes in the Central African Republic since 2021.
