Funds cross-border humanitarian assistance for people displaced by conflict following the 2021 coup.
Why this matters in Myanmar
Since the military seized power in February 2021, fighting has spread across much of the country, and OCHA estimated in December 2024 that over 3.5 million people were displaced. The southeast has seen repeated airstrikes, shelling and village burnings, pushing families into forests and temporary hideouts where they move again whenever the fighting shifts.
International agencies based in Yangon have very limited access to areas outside military control, and the authorities restrict travel and aid permits. Cross-border delivery through local community organizations is one of the few ways food and shelter material reach these families at all. On the Thai side, long-established camps have taken in new arrivals while overall funding for refugees who have lived there for decades has declined, leaving camp residents and newcomers alike with less support than they need.
What your gift pays for
- Rice, cooking oil, salt and pulses for families sheltering in forests and temporary sites
- Tarpaulins, blankets and mosquito nets for households forced to move again at short notice
- Emergency cash for food and medicine in areas where local markets still function
- Contributions to food and shelter support for refugees in camps on the Thai side of the border
Organization
The Border Consortium (TBC) · Thailand (operates across Thai-Myanmar border)
Charity Commission for England and Wales · No. 1109476
Founded 1984 · Headquarters: Bangkok
Provides cross-border assistance to displaced people in southeast Myanmar and camps in Thailand.
How they work: TBC rarely delivers aid directly inside Myanmar. It channels support through ethnic community-based organizations that know the terrain and are trusted by displaced villagers, and it has spent years building their ability to assess needs and account for supplies. In the Thai camps it has long supported food and shelter through refugee-led camp committees. Its long-running surveys of displacement in southeast Myanmar have also been one of the few consistent data sources on conditions there.
Track record: In 2023 TBC supported at least 300,000 internally displaced people inside Myanmar and over 20,000 vulnerable people along the Thai-Myanmar border.

Giving in Myanmar
Since the 2021 military coup, conflict inside Myanmar has displaced civilians and led to detentions for peaceful political activity. The three causes listed respond to those consequences: cross-border humanitarian aid through The Border Consortium, food, medicine and family support for detainees through the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, and check-in visits for elderly residents of conflict-affected areas through HelpAge International. Each works with people especially exposed to the crisis.
3 causes are listed in Myanmar, each with its own verified organization. $375,312 has been distributed to causes in Myanmar since 2021.
