Funds rent support and housing for families who fled Nagorno-Karabakh.
Why this matters in Armenia
More than 100,000 ethnic Armenians left Nagorno-Karabakh within about a week in late September 2023, after Azerbaijan's military offensive, arriving with what they could carry. Many lost not only homes but farms, businesses and the savings tied up in them. For a country of fewer than three million people, the arrival was sudden and large, and families scattered into rented accommodation in Yerevan, its surrounding communities and towns across the regions.
Rents in and around the capital had already risen steeply after 2022, driven partly by the arrival of tens of thousands of people from Russia, and displaced families compete for the same limited stock. Older people, people with disabilities and households that lost their main earner find it hardest to re-establish themselves. A housing certificate makes ownership possible, but using one means finding a property within its value and completing the paperwork, and many families are still renting while they search.
What your gift pays for
- Monthly rent and utility support for displaced families still renting while they wait to buy a home
- Housing certificates that families put toward buying a home of their own
- Higher certificate values where property prices are steep, such as communities around Yerevan
Organization
Government of the Republic of Armenia (housing provision programme for displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh) · Armenia
Government body
Founded 2024 · Headquarters: Yerevan
Armenian government programme providing rent compensation and housing certificates to families displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh.
How they work: The program is run by the Armenian government and funded from the state budget. Displaced families receive a certificate of fixed value to put toward buying a home, with amounts set by location and revised over time; in March 2026 the government moved to raise the value for communities adjacent to Yerevan from 3 million to 4 million drams. The state has also paid monthly support toward rent and utilities, with amounts and eligibility revised over time.
Track record: By the end of 2025 Armenia had issued housing certificates to 4,040 families displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, of which 1,755 families had already used them.

Giving in Armenia
After the September 2023 exodus from Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenia took in families who had left their homes and most of what they owned behind. This fund supports rent and housing for them through the Armenian government's housing program for displaced people. It is currently our single listed cause in Armenia, and more may be added as further partners are vetted.
This is currently the only cause we list in Armenia. $84,012 has been distributed to causes in Armenia since 2021.
