Why this matters in Palestine
Most of Gaza's population has been displaced at least once since October 2023, many of them several times. Families live in tents, damaged buildings, schools and improvised shelters packed into crowded areas. Since the October 2025 ceasefire many families have moved back to neighborhoods where little is left standing, while hundreds of thousands remain in crowded displacement sites. When winter rain comes, low-lying camps flood, tents tear and sag, and people sleeping on bare or wet ground have little protection from cold nights.
Limits on what enters the territory, and on how much, keep shelter materials chronically short, and prices for basic items in local markets have risen far beyond what displaced families can pay. With most housing damaged or destroyed, there is no permanent home to return to, so families need materials that let them patch or replace a shelter again and again. Older people, young children, people with disabilities and the sick suffer most from exposure, and many households have lost the earner who once paid for these essentials.

How they work: The Palestine Red Crescent is the national society for the Palestinian territories within the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Alongside relief distributions it runs ambulance services, hospitals and primary care, and its staff and volunteers come from the communities they serve. It coordinates its operations with Movement partners such as the ICRC and the IFRC.
Track record: In January 2020 PRCS teams gave tarpaulins, blankets, mattresses and heaters to around 450 families hit by cold weather in Gaza and the West Bank.
