Funds psychosocial support sessions for children showing acute trauma symptoms after prolonged exposure to conflict.
Why this matters in Palestine
Most children in the Strip have now been displaced at least once, many several times, and a large share have lost a parent, sibling or close relative. Signs of acute distress are common: nightmares, bedwetting, refusal to eat, outbursts of anger or long silences. For young children these reactions are normal responses to abnormal events, but without support they can harden into lasting problems with sleep, learning and attachment.
Ordinary sources of comfort have been stripped away. Most schools were destroyed, damaged or turned into shelters, and since the October 2025 ceasefire only temporary learning spaces have begun to replace them. Extended families are scattered, and parents who are themselves exhausted and grieving have little left to give. Specialist mental health care was limited before the war and has since lost staff, buildings and supplies. Structured group sessions led by trained staff give children a safe place to play, express what they feel and relearn some sense of routine, and they help caregivers recognize which children need closer attention.

Organization
Gaza Community Mental Health Programme (GCMHP) · Palestine
Founded 1990 · Headquarters: Gaza
Gaza-based mental health NGO providing psychosocial support and therapy for children and families.
How they work: GCMHP was founded in 1990 by psychiatrist Eyad El-Sarraj and follows a community mental health model rather than a hospital one. Multidisciplinary teams of psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers and nurses offer counseling, therapy and group activities through community centers, and the program has long run a free telephone counseling line. It also trains local professionals and documents the psychological effects of violence on civilians. Work is adapted continually to security conditions, and details of current sites are kept general here.
Track record: In July 2025 GCMHP ran psychosocial support and emotional release sessions for orphaned children at its Deir Al-Balah and Gaza City community centres.

Giving in Palestine
Conflict damage to homes, water systems and children's wellbeing in Gaza is the focus of three Palestinian causes. Oxfam funds water trucking and fuel for desalination units where piped water has been damaged, the Palestine Red Crescent distributes shelter materials and blankets to families whose homes were destroyed, and the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme offers psychosocial support to children with acute trauma symptoms. A fourth, with the Palestinian Hydrology Group, funds water quality monitoring and repairs to wells and cisterns where damaged water and sanitation spread preventable disease.
4 causes are listed in Palestine, each with its own verified organization. $404,331 has been distributed to causes in Palestine since 2021.
