Funds specialist training for foster carers taking in children with complex trauma histories, an area where public funding routinely falls short.
Why this matters in the United Kingdom
Children entering care now tend to be older and to have lived through more than earlier generations did: neglect, domestic abuse, parental addiction, exploitation outside the home. That history shows up in behavior that ordinary parenting does not settle. Without preparation, carers can feel overwhelmed, placements break down, and a child who has already lost one family loses another.
Fostering services across the four nations have reported a shortage of carers for years, and many experienced carers are leaving or retiring. Local authority budgets for children's services are stretched, so ongoing training often gets squeezed in favor of urgent casework. Each placement breakdown means another move, often to a different school and sometimes far from home. Specialist trauma training, and peer support that continues after approval, helps carers understand what lies behind a child's behavior and stay with them through the hardest months.

Organization
The Fostering Network · United Kingdom
Charity Commission for England and Wales · No. 280852
Founded 1974 · Headquarters: London
UK fostering charity that runs training and development programmes for foster carers.
How they work: The Fostering Network is a membership charity whose members are foster carers and the fostering services, local authorities and independent agencies, that recruit them, across all four UK nations. Alongside training and resources for services, it offers carers independent advice and support. It also holds the UK license for the Mockingbird program, in which an experienced carer in a hub home supports a small cluster of nearby fostering households, providing advice, sleepovers and a sense of extended family.
Track record: Publishes The Skills to Foster preparation course for foster carers; its June 2025 edition is trauma-informed and has 70 fostering services signed up.

Giving in the United Kingdom
Long waits and stretched budgets connect most of the British causes here. Several respond to NHS waiting lists in England, including the more than 550,000 children and young people waiting for mental health support, while others address rough sleeping, food bank demand still far above pre-pandemic levels, unlawful evictions and winter warmth for low-income pensioners. Youth employment, foster care, regional theatres and rare genetic disease research round out the range, with established charities such as The Trussell Trust, St Mungo's, Shelter and Age UK as partners.
19 causes are listed in the United Kingdom, each with its own verified organization. $1,137,510 has been distributed to causes in the United Kingdom since 2021.
