Funds seeds, tools and food support for families in the Far North region affected by armed-group violence and poor harvests.
Why this matters in Cameroon
The Far North region sits on the edge of the Lake Chad Basin, bordering Nigeria and Chad, and has lived with attacks by Boko Haram and its offshoots for more than a decade. Raids, abductions and livestock theft have pushed families off their fields, and those who stay often cannot safely reach farmland far from their villages. The region is also among the poorest in the country, with a short rainy season, frequent dry spells and floods that ruin harvests.
Households that lose a harvest typically sell animals, eat their seed stock or cut meals, which leaves them nothing to plant when the rains return. Public services are thin in border areas, and humanitarian appeals for the Lake Chad crisis have long been underfunded. Seeds, tools and short-term food help carry families through the lean season so they can plant again instead of falling deeper into debt.
What your gift pays for
- Seeds and basic farming tools distributed before the planting season
- Food or cash support during the lean months before harvest
- Nutrition screening for young children in affected households, with referral when malnutrition is found
- Volunteer transport and logistics for distributions in remote or insecure communities

Cameroon Red Cross Society · Cameroon

Founded 1960 · Headquarters: Yaoundé
Delivering cash transfers, livelihood support and nutrition screening under an IFRC food-insecurity appeal.
How they work: The Cameroon Red Cross works through local branches and trained volunteers who live in the communities they serve, which helps it reach areas outside agencies find hard to access. Under appeals coordinated by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, volunteers register vulnerable households, carry out distributions and follow up afterwards. As an auxiliary to public authorities in the humanitarian field, the society coordinates its operations with local administrations.
Track record: With IFRC support, it distributed CFA51.3 million in cash (CFA57,000 each) to 900 vulnerable households in Yagoua, Far North, to cover food, healthcare and schooling.

Giving in Cameroon
Conflict in two different parts of Cameroon is the backdrop for its two causes. In the English-speaking North-West and South-West regions, where fighting has closed schools, the Norwegian Refugee Council runs community learning centers. In the Far North, families affected by armed-group violence and poor harvests receive seeds, tools and food support through the Cameroon Red Cross Society. One focuses on keeping children learning, the other on restoring food security for farming families.
2 causes are listed in Cameroon, each with its own verified organization. $158,043 has been distributed to causes in Cameroon since 2021.
