Funds oral rehydration points and chlorination supplies during active cholera outbreaks in displacement settlements with no reliable clean water.
Why this matters in Haiti
Nearly 1.3 million Haitians have been forced from their homes by armed violence, PAHO reported in 2025, and many now live in schools, churches and makeshift camps in and around Port-au-Prince. These sites are crowded, latrines are few, and clean water often has to be bought by the bucket or carried from unreliable sources. Cholera, which arrived in 2010 and disappeared for about three years before resurging in late 2022, spreads quickly in exactly these conditions; more than 2,500 suspected cases were reported from the start of 2025, including localized outbreaks inside displacement sites.
Cholera kills through dehydration, sometimes within hours, yet nearly every patient survives with prompt oral rehydration and, for severe cases, intravenous fluids. The difficulty is reaching people fast. Insecurity has forced hospitals and health centers to close or cut services, armed groups control roads between neighborhoods, and each rainy season raises the risk of new outbreaks. Rehydration points close to where people sleep, and chlorine to make drinking water safe, are the simplest and most effective defenses.

Organization
Zanmi Lasante (Partners In Health Haiti) · Haiti
IRS EIN (parent: Partners In Health, US) · No. 04-3567502
Founded 1983 · Headquarters: Cange
Runs cholera treatment and outbreak response alongside Haiti's public health system.
How they work: Zanmi Lasante works inside the public health system, running hospitals and health centers jointly with the Ministry of Public Health and Population across the Central Plateau and Lower Artibonite. Gang violence forced its flagship University Hospital in Mirebalais to close in 2025. Its model rests on community health workers, known as accompagnateurs, who visit households, follow patients and carry prevention supplies. During cholera outbreaks it sets up treatment units and rehydration points, and in 2012 it helped run one of the country's first oral cholera vaccination campaigns.
Track record: In the October 2010 cholera outbreak, PIH/Zanmi Lasante sent clinical staff and supplies to the Artibonite, and its community health workers distributed oral rehydration salts and soap.

Giving in Haiti
Armed gang control of neighborhoods, and the displacement it causes, links the three causes listed for Haiti. Zanmi Lasante, the Haitian arm of Partners In Health, runs oral rehydration points and chlorination during cholera outbreaks in displacement settlements. The Bureau des Avocats Internationaux gives displaced families free legal help, from replacing lost documents to protecting property claims, and the Association des Journalistes Haitiens provides security equipment and legal support to reporters covering the violence and political instability. Each partner works within an ongoing security crisis.
3 causes are listed in Haiti, each with its own verified organization. $263,797 has been distributed to causes in Haiti since 2021.
