Why this matters in Yemen

Most of the food eaten in Yemen is imported, so the war's damage to ports, roads and the currency reaches every kitchen. Families in many areas can find food in the market but cannot afford it, and they cut first the protein, milk and vegetables that small children need. Diarrheal disease and poor water add to the toll, because a sick child absorbs little of what they eat.

Support shrank sharply in 2025. Major donors withdrew funding, health and therapeutic feeding centers closed, and by the end of that year the International Rescue Committee reported that the humanitarian nutrition response was less than a tenth funded. In districts the IRC supports, the reach of nutrition services fell by almost two-thirds in a single year, and falling admissions reflected children losing access to care rather than better health. Supplementary feeding catches children before they reach the severe stage, when treatment is harder, costlier and less likely to succeed.

Organization

Save the Children - Yemen · Yemen

Charity Commission for England and Wales (parent: Save the Children International) · No. 1076822

Founded 1963 · Headquarters: Sana'a

Runs nutrition and treatment programmes for malnourished children across Yemen.

How they work: Save the Children has worked in Yemen since 1963 and runs nutrition alongside primary health care rather than as a separate program. Staff support existing health facilities and send mobile teams to communities far from a clinic, screening children, treating malnutrition and referring complicated cases. Feeding counseling for caregivers is built into this work, and in some areas cash assistance helps families buy food. Operations adjust to security conditions, and the organization works with local authorities in different parts of the country.

Track record: Save the Children has provided preventative treatment or life-saving nutrition support to over 2.4 million children in Yemen.

Giving in Yemen

Child malnutrition and disease, both worsened by years of conflict, are the focus in Yemen. Three of the four causes deal with nutrition at different stages: community screening that finds acute malnutrition early, therapeutic food for children with severe cases, and supplementary feeding where conflict has disrupted food supply chains. The fourth funds chlorination supplies and rapid response teams during cholera outbreaks. Partners are international agencies with long-standing operations in Yemen: Action Against Hunger, Save the Children and Oxfam.

4 causes are listed in Yemen, each with its own verified organization. $333,543 has been distributed to causes in Yemen since 2021.
