Funds food and essential supplies for towns cut off by armed-group blockades, where roads are closed and markets have run empty.
Why this matters in Burkina Faso
Armed groups operating in the north and east have encircled a number of towns, mining or ambushing the roads that lead in and out. Traders stop coming, fuel runs short, and farmers cannot reach fields beyond the town limits, so a place that used to feed itself and its surrounding villages depends on whatever can be brought in. Prices for grain, oil and milk climb far beyond what families can pay.
Many of these towns have also taken in people displaced from nearby villages, so more mouths share less food. Women and young children are especially exposed, since a nursing mother who eats too little has less milk and a toddler on thin porridge can become malnourished quickly. Normal commercial supply cannot get through, and the state's own capacity is stretched. Bringing food in by escorted convoy or by air is expensive, but for people inside a blockaded town it is often the only supply there is.

Organization
World Food Programme (WFP) Burkina Faso · Burkina Faso
UN agency
Founded 1967 · Headquarters: Ouagadougou
Delivers food, including by air, to towns under armed-group blockade such as Djibo.
How they work: WFP moves food by road in convoys where routes can be used and, when they cannot, by air through the UN Humanitarian Air Service, which it manages on behalf of the humanitarian community. Alongside general food rations, it runs nutrition programs aimed at young children and pregnant and nursing women, and in areas where markets still function it gives cash so families can buy locally. WFP is funded entirely by voluntary contributions from governments and private donors.
Track record: In October 2022 WFP used helicopters to reach blockaded Djibo, delivering 63 mt of food for 42,200 people and 20 mt of nutrition products for children and mothers.

Giving in Burkina Faso
Insecurity has closed schools and cut off whole towns in Burkina Faso, and the two causes listed respond to both. The Norwegian Refugee Council runs temporary learning spaces and pays teachers for children whose schools have shut. The World Food Programme brings food and essential supplies into towns isolated by armed-group blockades, where roads are closed and markets have emptied. Both partners are large humanitarian agencies with established operations in the country's most affected regions.
2 causes are listed in Burkina Faso, each with its own verified organization. $199,044 has been distributed to causes in Burkina Faso since 2021.
