Funds early-intervention housing support for young people at risk of homelessness after leaving unstable family situations.
Why this matters in Italy
Italian young people typically live with their parents until around 30, among the latest ages for leaving home in Europe, relying on family support through study, insecure first jobs and high rents. Those who grew up in foster care or residential communities often lose formal support abruptly at 18, or at 21 if a court extends their placement, and are expected to manage alone from the start.
Care leavers have no family home to fall back on when a job ends or a rental contract falls through. Public housing lists are long, private landlords ask for guarantees and contracts that a young person in temporary work cannot provide, and support varies sharply from one region to another. Some end up in emergency shelters or unsafe arrangements within months of leaving care. A transitional apartment, with an adult to call on and help finding work, gives time to save, finish training and build a rental history.

Organization
Agevolando · Italy
Founded 2010 · Headquarters: Bologna
Italian association of and for care leavers supporting young people leaving care toward autonomy, including housing, with projects funded by the Emilia-Romagna region through 2025.
How they work: Agevolando works with care leavers rather than only for them: young people who have lived in foster families or residential communities take an active part in its activities. Through the Care Leavers Network, groups in cities across Italy meet, discuss the problems of leaving care and draw up recommendations, presented at national conferences held with the national Ombudsperson for Children and Adolescents. Alongside advocacy, the association offers mentoring, guidance and housing projects for young people moving toward independence.
Track record: As of 2019 Agevolando's 'Casa dolce casa' social housing project offered 14 apartments with 50 beds in six Italian cities for young people leaving foster or residential care.

Giving in Italy
Cultural heritage outside the major national programs is the main subject of the Italian causes. FAI restores smaller, unlisted historic sites valued by local communities, the Cineteca di Bologna restores and digitizes aging film archives, and an association of small museums trains staff and volunteers across its member network. The one social cause, with Agevolando, provides early housing support for young people at risk of homelessness after leaving unstable family situations.
4 causes are listed in Italy, each with its own verified organization. $362,803 has been distributed to causes in Italy since 2021.
