What Happens to Your Crypto After You Donate
You send crypto; a partner organization somewhere in the world puts it to work. This page follows a donation through every step in between: how we verify it, when it is converted, how it reaches the partner, what it costs, and what you receive along the way.

Most partner organizations, from a midwives’ association in Afghanistan to a food bank in Portugal, can’t accept crypto and don’t need to. Global Relief Group receives your crypto, converts it, and sends the money to the partner’s registered bank account. Here is each step.
The journey of a donation
- You choose a cause and send. On our homepage, you pick a cause, a coin and an amount, and send the crypto from your exchange or wallet to the address shown.
- You submit the transaction ID. It links your transfer to the cause you chose. Your donation appears as Pending.
- We verify it on the blockchain. Our team checks that the transaction reached our address, on the right network, for the coin you chose. Once it has, your donation is marked Confirmed and your official receipt is emailed.
- We convert it. Within 24 hours of confirmation, the crypto is converted into traditional currency.
- The partner receives it. In the same 24 hours, the funds are transferred to the registered bank account of the partner organization carrying out your cause, the organization named on the cause page.
Why we convert quickly
- It protects the gift. Crypto prices move. Converting soon after confirmation means the partner receives close to what you gave, rather than whatever the market does over the following weeks.
- Partners need local money. Salaries, medicines, seeds and school fees are paid in local currency. Partners don’t need a crypto wallet, and don’t carry the risks of holding crypto.
- It keeps the trail simple. Your gift is recorded on the blockchain, on your receipt, and in our records of payments to partners.
What it costs
We don’t take a platform fee. The only cost is the blockchain network fee, which you pay when you send and which goes to the network, not to us. If you send from an exchange, it may also charge its own withdrawal fee, which it shows you before you confirm.
If you choose to add the optional Amplify Fund contribution, 5% on top of your gift, that extra amount is pooled with other donors’ contributions and shared across all causes each month, so causes that receive fewer direct gifts still get support. It is entirely optional.
What you receive
- An acknowledgment when you submit your transaction ID, if you give an email address.
- An official receipt once we have verified your gift, showing what you gave, when, and our EIN. Our receipt guide explains every line.
- A record in My Donations if you create a free account.
Because we convert donations promptly, if you claim more than $5,000 for a gift and we sign Section B of your Form 8283, you should expect a copy of Form 8282, which charities file when they sell donated property within three years.
Your chosen cause
The cause you pick decides where your gift goes, and we honour that choice wherever possible. Because many of our partners are outside the US, US tax rules require Global Relief Group to keep final control and discretion over how donations are used; that is what makes your gift deductible as a gift to a US charity rather than a non-deductible gift to a foreign organization. In practice, this matters only in rare situations, such as a partner no longer being able to receive funds. Every partner is checked through our vetting process, and each cause page shows when it was last verified.
Common questions
Can I follow my donation after it is converted?
You can follow it on the blockchain up to our address with your transaction ID, and see its status in My Donations. Our impact page reports on our work and where donations go.
Can my donation be refunded?
No. Like all blockchain transactions, a crypto donation can’t be reversed once confirmed, and the funds move on to the partner within a day. Please check the cause, coin, network and amount before you send.
